Over the past decade, land values in Chennai have skyrocketed. As recently as 2016, it was still somewhat feasible to purchase a 1,000-square-foot plot—a fraction of a ‘ground’—in heritage-rich localities such as Mylapore and Anna Nagar. Today, however, such a purchase remains out of reach, even if one were to pour in crores of rupees.
