A woman voter filed a petition in the Madras High Court challenging the election of Markandayan, the DMK MLA for the Vilathikulam constituency in Thoothukudi district, and seeking to have his victory declared invalid. However, she withdrew the petition after the High Court reprimanded her and warned that a fine would be imposed.
