Former Tamil Nadu DGP Vijayakumar IPS, who led the historic Operation Cocoon that ended forest brigand Veerappan’s reign in 2004, has been conferred the Padma Shri Award 2026. The honour recognises his exceptional service to the Indian police force and decades of contribution to internal security.
