On the auspicious occasion of Thai Amavasai, devotees took a holy dip in the Agni Theertham sea at Rameswaram and performed tarpanam rituals in memory of their ancestors. Large crowds thronged Rameswaram from early morning, as the day is considered highly sacred for paying homage to forefathers through traditional rites and prayers.
