Once the 68-kilometer-long double railway line—extending from Chengalpattu (which serves as a suburb of Chennai) through Kanchipuram up to Arakkonam—becomes operational, the number of trains extended to Kanchipuram could be increased to 40 per day, up from the current daily operation of 13 trains. In addition to passenger trains, additional freight trains could also be operated.
