In India, an average prisoner spends between Rs 1000 and Rs 150 per day on food. If we look at the maintenance cost, it is not even in the thousands (there is no official data). But in Austria, it costs Rs 1.6 lakh per day to maintain a prisoner in a prison weighing 300 kg.
