A daily wage laborer from Assam is struggling to prove his Indian citizenship. Despite submitting 15 documents-including a voter ID card and records containing his grandparents’ names from the 1951 National Register of Citizens-he has failed to establish his status as an Indian. He has been declared a foreigner.
