China is building a massive artificial island capable of withstanding nuclear explosions. Partially submerged and movable, it will house 238 people and operate independently for four months. Equipped with emergency power, communication, navigation, and nuclear safety systems, the 138×85 meter island uses metamaterials and is expected to be operational by 2028.
