The Madras High Court has directed that only 300 shops be permitted to operate at Chennai’s Marina Beach. Noting that as many as 1,417 shops were functioning earlier, the court ordered authorities to select the permitted 300 shops through a lottery system, aiming to regulate commercial activity and maintain order along the iconic beachfront.
