The Water Resources Department has invited tenders for the first phase of the 6th reservoir project to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 471 crore in Kovalam, Chennai. The reservoir is to be constructed on about 4,375 acres of government land near Thiruporur between Old Mamallapuram Road and East Coast Road. If this lake is built, it will easily meet the drinking water needs of South Chennai.
