Ahead of the Pongal festival, train ticket booking from Chennai for January 9–18 has begun. Over six lakh passengers are expected to travel to southern districts like Madurai, Trichy, and Coimbatore. Most trains, including Vaigai and Pandian Express, entered the waiting list on the first day, prompting railway officials to urge early booking.
