Sanae Takaichi, leader of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), on Tuesday won a historic vote in the lower house. Sanae Takaichi reportedly received a total of 237 votes, securing a majority in the 465-seat chamber. She is expected to be approved by the upper house as well and sworn in as the country’s 104th prime minister after meeting the emperor.
