The Tamil Nadu government has approved the construction of a metro rail line from Chennai Poonamallee to Sunguvarchathram. It has also allocated Rs 2,126 crore. As the Tamil Nadu government is keen on building an airport in Paranthur, it is planned to build a metro rail line from Chennai Poonamallee to Paranthur to also provide metro rail services there.
