The Tamil Nadu Forest Department, in collaboration with IIT Madras, has started restoration work at Karaisalli Island, located in the Gulf of Mannar Marine National Park, off the coast of Thoothukudi. It is said that artificial coral reefs covering an area of about 3 acres will be set up around Karaisalli Island to prevent sea erosion.
