A bench led by Justice G.R. Swaminathan of the Madurai High Court issued a decisive order banning the slaughter of cows and calves in public places—not only on Bakrid but on other days as well. The Tamil Nadu government has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court challenging this order, seeking to have the High Court’s directive set aside.
