Gold Customs Duty Increases: Prime Minister Modi had advised the general public to reduce their gold purchases. Against this backdrop, the basic customs duty on gold, silver, and other commodities was hiked overnight in an effort to discourage people from buying gold. Consequently, the import duty on gold has been raised from 6 percent to 15 percent.
