On his very first day as Chief Minister, Vijay fulfilled a major election promise by signing the scheme to provide 200 units of free electricity to every household in Tamil Nadu. While the move has been welcomed by the public, it will push the state’s power subsidy from Rs 7,752 crore to Rs 12,000 crore annually, creating an additional financial challenge of Rs 4,248 crore for the new government.
