A young Sri Lankan woman sold her gold chain to meet her boyfriend in Palani and used the money to reach Rameswaram in a smuggled boat. The police arrested Vidurshiya, who wanted to hold her boyfriend’s hand somehow, and detained her in a refugee camp. When she applied to come to India, the Indian embassy refused to grant her a visa. That is why she came in a smuggled boat.
