The Chennai Meteorological Department has said that heavy rains will occur in 16 districts from Chennai to Namakkal in the next 2 hours in Tamil Nadu. An orange alert has been issued for the districts of Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Ranipet, Vellore and Cuddalore, indicating the possibility of heavy rains with thunder and lightning.
